Janis Small Strickland Omide aka Coach OhMeDay, retired from "traditional" work, April 2021.
She has left her office, but not her desk.
OhMeDay has over 25 years of experience in providing mental health and addiction treatment to adult individuals of varied ages, genders and cultures.
OhMeDay knows that she was "called" into the profession that she is retiring from--and "believes" that she is being called to what she is currently doing-- sharing her knowledge & resources via her coaching, social platforms, podcast and websites and writing from her heart. This is a labor-of-love for OhMeDay--she knows that ALL of her needs will be met because she lives in grace.
OhMeDay is skilled in using, and teaching, CBT coaching techniques to help individuals unlock their potential and achieve their goals. OhMeDay tailors every session to meet the unique needs of each of her clients or group.
OhMeDay prides herself in being “the coach who luvs to k.i.s.s.—keep it super simple” and believes that humor is one of life’s greatest healing force.
As a counselor, OhMeDay discovered a unique gift in providing a safe space for individuals, couples and/or family members to share their deepest emotional pain. Yet, beyond the need and ability to comfort and listen, she offered SOLUTIONS—with support!
OhMeDay is most recognized for helping individuals repair broken relationships, heal unresolved grief and grow in recovery from any kind of addiction. She has over 25-years of collected resources, training and experience in those areas—and is eager to offer coaching to those wanting to
· develop healthy relationships and/or
· manage hurtful losses and/or
· sharpen their recovery tools.
OhMeDay has worked as a Substance Abuse (SA) Therapist with doctors/nurses, veterans, construction workers, inmates, lawyers, mothers on TANF, teachers, pregnant women, retirees, enlisted service-members, etc.
She has provided SA counseling to individuals with mental illnesses and physical disabilities.
OhMeDay has been an Outpatient, Residential and Aftercare SA Counselor; Vocational Rehabilitation SA Counselor; SA Jail Counselor; SA Specialist for ex-offenders, probationers and individuals who received DUIs/DWIs. OhMeDay has also provided Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) for individuals in opioid treatment programs. OhMeDay has extensive experience in working with justice-involved individuals (to include providing treatment to adults with addictions to Alcohol, Cocaine/Crack, Heroin/Opioids, Marijuana, Relationships, Nicotine, etc.).
OhMeDay's Credentials Consists of:
• M.S. Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from
Medical College of Virginia (MCV) @ VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University)
• Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
• Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) –
issued by the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals
• Qualified Mental Health Professional for Adults (QMHP-A)
• B.S. Degree in Accounting from Hampton University
and a minor in Computer Science
(received while working at IBM-Charlotte from 1982-1992)
OhMeDay shares the same vision of the late Father Joseph Martin:
